MEADOW WITH NO DEW
© Copyright 1992.

After hours, while the day sleeps,
Unconscious when the Night speaks,
Asking him to dance in meadow dew.
You know that her cool embrace,
Does not touch his beaming face,
Nor does she steal a kiss or two,

But once, when the Night came wandering in
The Day woke up and gave her a spin,
They danced 'til all the dew had gone,
But then the day had to leave before dawn.

Solos & Scatting

But once, when the Night came wandering in
The Day woke up and gave her a spin,
They danced 'til all the dew had gone,
But then the day had to leave before dawn.

Now, if you wake up one morning and find there's no dew.
You know that Night,
You know that Ni----ight,
You know that Ni---ight,
Well, you know that Night,
she might not be so blue!
These lyrics are about having a long-held crush, and having a special moment with him, even though it could never last. It's mostly about a charming, gorgeous, but shallow guy who walked me part of the way home from middle school, a day before I moved. Feelings that come to mind for me with this song are: longing, freedom, empowerment, confidence, gratitude and joy! I wrote 95% of the song off the top of my head right after waking up, one day during college. It was on the back burner for many years, without my showing it to anyone, because it didn’t feel right. (I didn’t want it to sound like a song about cheating.) Then I finished it in 2009, just in time to record it to my Karen Lyu & Fresh Jazz CD!
